Welcome to the BioPreferred® Program Catalog – Mandatory!

USDA’s BioPreferred® Program Catalog assists users in identifying products that qualify for mandatory federal purchasing, are certified through the voluntary labeling initiative, or both.

Companies with biobased products voluntarily submit their product information for inclusion in this Catalog. Although you cannot purchase a product directly from this Catalog, sourcing information, such as product details and company websites, is provided.*

Mandatory Federal PurchasingThis symbol indicates that a product qualifies for mandatory federal purchasing by meeting or exceeding the minimum biobased content requirements for one or more products categories that have been identified by USDA. The manufacturers self-certify (self-identify) the product’s biobased content. USDA lists the product’s biobased content as “meets minimum” for a particular category.

Preferred Federal Purchasing Federal agencies and contractors are required by law to purchase biobased products.

USDA identifies eligible product categories and specifies the minimum biobased content required for each category. There currently are 139 product categories and 14,000 products from which Federal agencies and contractors can choose. • Last year, construction, groundskeeping, and custodial products accounted for 80 percent of the government’s biobased purchases. • Composite panels, roof coatings, and floor coverings and carpets account for the materials upon which the government spent the most. • The most frequently purchased products included custodial products such as multipurpose cleaners, bathroom, and glass cleaners.

Please get in touch to discuss how to certify your product and use that designation to win more government contracts.
